Every Thursday, moms pour into the Cherry Street Food bank in Seattle, with little ones following close behind. They’re here on “Baby Day” to pick up food, formula and diapers for their children, who would otherwise go hungry if it were not for Northwest Harvest.
“I’m a single mom, a full time mom and I do not have a job,” said Raye Lynn Goodwin, choking back tears. “So it’s hard right now.”
Goodwin has been depending on "Baby Day" for the last two years and today, she found something for her sick daughter.
“She was actually sick this weekend, during Thanksgiving. I wanted to buy Pedialyte but I didn't have the money. So coming here is awesome,” said Goodwin.
Over the last few years, the need has become even greater.
“We're seeing 175 to 200 people come through, most of them have multiple children who need food,” said Andrea Flatley, spokeswoman for Northwest Harvest.
So much of what helps babies and kids thrive is simply too expensive, especially for those on a fixed income.
Northwest Harvest needs baby formula, baby food, diapers and wipes and we've made it easy for you to help this Saturday at the KING 5 Hometeam Harvest.
