SEATTLE, May 22, 2013 – Following a dynamic month of news coverage and feature reporting, KING 5 Television stands atop its peers as viewers once again prove more people get their news from KING 5 than any other broadcast source in Western Washington.


This May, KING 5 built news audiences in every day part, increasing the number of viewers from network and syndicated lead-ins.  Viewers were rewarded with groundbreaking coverage of the May Day Riots, an Investigative series that uncovered dangerous practices at the Hanford Nuclear Facility, and up to the minute reporting on the NBA’s potential return to Seattle.  


KING 5’s HealthLink campaign continues to expand with a break-out effort by the Morning News Team.  “Get Fit” engaged a massive online community alongside our morning personalities in an effort to improve their health and wellness.  


The manner in which these events unfolded across platforms: on-air, online, via mobile and social media prove KING 5’s leadership not only in Western Washington, but industry-wide.   


KING 5’s Local Programming also delivered fun and surprises for viewers this May.


Daytime talk show, New Day Northwest sat down with “Firefly” and “Much Ado About Nothing” star Nathan Fillion, and welcomed special co-host, comedian Dave Coulier.  


Evening Magazine invited viewers to explore five great summertime destinations around the nation, and each night, gave a trip away.  In another special, the show paid homage to the 20th anniversary of Sleepless in Seattle, celebrating Seattle locations and brushes with celebrities.

Key numbers from the May Ratings period:

  • KING 5 won all newscast in the Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54 categories at: 4:30am, 5am, 6am, Noon, 5pm, 6:30pm and 11pm
  • KING 5 was # 1 in Total Day Rating (4:30am-2am) in all key demos, Adults 18-49, Adults 25-54 and Women 25-54.
  • KING 5 beat or equaled the combined KOMO and KIRO ratings at 4:30am, 5am and 6am in Adults 18-49, Adults 25-54 and Women 25-54
  • KING 5 newscast is #1 in Households and all key demos from 5-7p
