Seattle, WA - The National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) has awarded KING 5 NPPA West Regional Top Station of the Year for 2012.  The award is the grand total of the quarterly competition wins across five categories of news coverage.  The categories cover breaking news, coverage under extreme deadline, general assignment, feature and in-depth stories.

The NPPA also named KING 5 News’ Matt Mrozinski as the 2012 West Top Photographer. Mrozinski is joined by five other KING 5 photographers in the top ten on that list.  Those are Douglas Burgess, Scott Jensen, Jeffrey Christian and Carolyn Hall.  In the last quarter of competition, KING 5 News entries garnered 75 points with wins in every category, capturing 12 of the 19 awards given.

The best news coverage is told through pictures as well as words,” said Mark Ginther, Executive News Director of KING 5, KONG 6/16, and NWCN. “The goal is to bring the story to viewer.  The awards help remind us we’re doing the work well.”

KING 5 stories that placed first across the five categories over the past year include:

In 2011, KING 5 was named Television News Photography Station of the Year, Large Market, in the NPPA’s annual Best of Photojournalism.  The mission of the NPPA is dedicated to the advancement of visual journalism and works in all news media to promote its role as a vital public service.
