The KING 5 Summer Hunger Challenge is back and this year we’ve asked students across the Puget Sound to help. There is a hunger gap experienced by school age kids each summer, when their reduced and fee meal programs go away. Our goal is to ensure that food banks are well stocked to meet the increased demand for local families. We want them well stocked with easy-to-prepare, nutritious meals that kids can and will be able to make on their own.
It’s a need we are all able to address. Here’s how:
From May 21-June 8, drop off a donation to the Summer Hunger Challenge at Sterling Bank Branches throughout Western Washington.
You can also text the word “hometeam” to 85944 and make a $10 donation to the campaign.
Then on Friday, June 1 tune in to KING 5 news to see how schools in the northwest are getting directly involved. You’ll see students showing compassion for their peers in need.
Compassion is the core message of Rachel’s Challenge, a program KING 5 has helped introduce to Western Washington over the last 18 months.
The Summer Hunger Challenge is an opportunity to take that message and make a real difference for the community at large. In Rachel Scott’s words, our act of compassion may just start a chain reaction.
