Norris Frederick was just a toddler when he came to Childhaven, full of rage and confusion because of his chaotic home life.

He returns on March 7 as a young man of 27 – one of the most decorated athletes in University of Washington history – to share his story of surviving a childhood scarred by physical abuse, domestic violence, family alcoholism and his father’s murder to become a U.S. Olympic hopeful and Cal State track coach.

Fueled by the love he found at Childhaven as a preschooler – a love that remains part of Norris’ life even today – he overcame more hurdles before he turned 25 than most people face in a lifetime.

Norris will be the keynote speaker at Childhaven’s annual fundraising luncheon at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 7, at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center.

A donation of at least $150 will be requested at the event to fund Childhaven’s work to help babies, toddlers and preschoolers heal from abuse and neglect.
