Seattle's Murray Stenson, heralded by peers and the press as “the best bartender in America,” is home from the hospital after a successful surgery.
In October, Stenson had to stop working after falling and breaking his arm. He began experiencing other unsettling symptoms. Soon afterward he was told he needed heart surgery.
Stenson -- a legend in the Seattle bar scene for his wit, wisdom and uncanny memory -- didn’t have health insurance. Friends in Seattle, and from around the world – from Portland to Paris – began holding fundraisers. At last count they had collected more than $212,000.
A friend tells KING 5 News that will be enough to cover the cost of his operation. Stenson was released from the hospital Friday afternoon and is at his Queen Anne home recovering with his girlfriend.
