It was a big year for the local chapter of the American Heart Association. As the Seattle and Tacoma Heart walks wrap up, nearly $1.4 million dollars have been raised to help fight heart disease. KING 5 was proud to support the effort on many levels, providing walkers, emcees and morning-of coverage. The AHA reports running out of day-of registration envelopes!
More than 10,000 people took part in the cause across the Puget Sound. The American Heart Association is deeply grateful to the Seattle-Tacoma communities for supporting the mission and helping to raise awareness about heart disease, which remains the leading killer of Americans.
A few acknowledgements to the two biggest teams for 2011.
- Top fundraising team for the Seattle Heart Walk is Sellen Construction, which raised over $187,000 and had more than 600 walkers registered on their team.
- Top fundraising team for the Tacoma Heart Walk is the City of Tacoma, which raised over $22,600 and had more than 140 walkers registered on their team.
Congratulations to everyone involved.
We’ll see you next year!
