Murray scolds Air Force officials over tanker decision
09:46 AM PDT on Wednesday, March 12, 2008
WASHINGTON - Sen. Patty Murray has scolded Air Force officials for their decision on an air tanker contract that Boeing lost.
At Wednesday's Defense Appropriations Subcommittee meeting she said she learned the Air Force did not consider some factors, including the U.S. complaint to the World Trade Organization over European subsidies to Airbus.
She also said the Air Force changed its proposal, indicating to Boeing it wanted to buy a "pickup truck" and then buying a "semi-truck" from Airbus.
Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne says it followed acquistion laws, which he called "extraordinarily complex."
Boeing is protesting the decision to give the $35 billion order for 179 planes to EADS and Northrop Grumman.
The Government Accountability Office has 100 days to issue a ruling.
