The city of Redmond is planning to chop down the three biggest Cottonwood trees at Idylwood Beach Park first thing Monday morning, and neighbors are fighting to stop it.

Neighbors have been told there are safety concerns that branches will fall. The city will reportedly remove 30 trees when it's all said and done.

"First of all we are not convinced that a great hazard exists. There is some potential liability but there's liability in any pubilc park," said resident Eliot Sokolov.

Neighbors want more study done. They fear the city is removing nesting habitats for bald eagles.

"I'm super happy to realize to learn that there are others in the community who do care about our parks our environment, about our eagles," said Monica Catunda

KING 5 reached out to the mayor Sunday for comment.
