Her father tackled a school shooter, now she organizes marches for gun control

Madelyn Olson is a senior at North Thurston High School in Lacey. In 2015 a fellow student fired two shots in the school's commons area.

The co-organizer of Olympia’s “March for Our Lives” rally knows all too well about school shootings.

“I’ll never forget the sound of my mom’s voice when I called her,” said Madelyn Olson, 18. “(I) told her I loved her, and that there was someone shooting a gun in school,” she told the crowd. (You can hear her entire speech on KING 5’s The Sound Podcast.)

Her father, Brady Olson, a teacher at the school, tackled the shooter before anyone was hurt.

“A change is coming and I hope lawmakers know that,” said Madelyn Olson after her speech. “This isn’t over and we will breathe down their necks until we get something changed because I’m sick and tired of this.”
