SEATTLE - He's an iconic Sonic who is now in the Hall of Fame.
Now Spencer Haywood is getting the film treatment. Full Court: The Spencer Haywood Story will make it's debut at the Seattle International Film Festival.
The documentary, which includes Haywood, covers his rural upbringing and battle to play in Seattle. A then 20-year-old Haywood sued the NBA for the right to play for the Seattle SuperSonics and took his case all the way to the Supreme Court. It changed the rules which now allow for people like Lebron James to make an early entry into the NBA draft.
The film was produced by Aegis CEO Dwayne Clark and includes Lenny Wilkens, Charles Barkley, and others. It is narrated by Chuck D. of Public Enemy.
It is scheduled to premiere May 21 at SIFF's Uptown Theater One.
