Seahawks select Husky defensive tackle Vita Vea in 2 CBS mock drafts

When scouting for their first round pick this year, the Seattle Seahawks may be looking no further than their own backyard.

In the latest round of mock drafts from CBS Sports, both Will Brinson and Pete Prisco are predicting Seattle will select defensive tackle Vita Vea from the University of Washington.

Standing at 6-foot-5, 340 pounds, Vea is an absolute mammoth in the middle of the field. However, Vea is not simply a one-trick pony as a run-stopper, he also possesses incredible speed for a defensive tackle his size.

Vea finished his junior year with 44 total tackles – 5.5 for a loss – 3.5 sacks and four passes defended. While Vea did most of his damage on the interior of the line, he wreaked havoc when asked to move out to the end. As a defensive tackle who is equally effective on the edge, his versatility is somewhat like a reverse Michael Bennett.

With question marks surrounding Sheldon Richardson, Cliff Avril and Seattle’s first pick from last year’s draft, Malik McDowell, the Seahawks may need Vea to fill a role immediately. But if Richardson is re-signed, and McDowell and Avril are able to return to the field, adding Vea would create quality depth for the Seahawks defensive line.
