With the first week of free agency in the books, team needs are becoming even more clear as draft day approaches. New mock drafts are being released, factoring in the multitude of high-profile free agents who have already signed.

The newest mock draft from USA TODAY has the Seahawks replenishing their depleted defensive line by selecting UTSA defensive end Marcus Davenport in the first round.

A defensive end has not been on most mock draft boards for the Seahawks, but the recent trade of Michael Bennett and the departure of Sheldon Richardson leaves a hole up front. A young draft pick like Davenport could be brought in alongside Jarran Reed, Frank Clark and Naz Jones to form an excellent, young defensive line. 2017 second round pick Malik McDowell could factor in as well, health permitting.

Davenport is considered raw but has outstanding potential. From Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling:

He’s still fairly raw, but Davenport’s ceiling is limitless. He can play with his hand in the dirt or standing up, and put up big numbers for the Roadrunners this season (17.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks). With NFL-level coaching, he could easily become an impact player at the next level sooner than later.

The Seahawks are building a young defense with an eye toward the future. Davenport offers upside in the long-term and has enough skill to contribute right away as well.

His presence would help ease the sting of losing Bennett and Richardson.
