Not surprisingly, veteran All-Pro safety Earl Thomas was not present on the first day of the Seattle Seahawks voluntary offseason workouts.

Thomas has long been the subject of trade rumors this offseason. The 29-year-old is a free agent after the 2018 season, and Seattle’s cap limitations make it unlikely that he will be re-signed. As such, the team could be looking to deal him while he is healthy and coming off a great season.

Seattle is known to be looking for both a first and a third-round pick for Thomas. The most talked about trade partner is the Dallas Cowboys, who just released star wide receiver Dez Bryant. Of course, Thomas is from Texas and grew up rooting for the Cowboys. He seems keen to return home, having cornered Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett after a game last year, telling him “come get me.”

A Thomas trade would likely happen either right before or even during the NFL Draft, which will take place April 26-28. Seattle’s voluntary workouts until then will be primarily conditioning, so Thomas will likely sit them out to avoid risking injury and hurting his trade value.

There’s no guarantee Thomas will be traded. However, considering Seattle’s desire to create more salary cap room, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see one of the last remaining members of the Legion of Boom on his way out.
