With quarterfinal play completed, we take a look at the teams we’ll see in this Saturday’s games. Here are the overviews for 2A and 1A Football state semi final match ups.

Quarter finals results:

Lynden 34, West Valley (Spokane) 21.

Archbishop Murphy 48, Tumwater 10.

River Ridge 19, Liberty 21.

Ellensburg 21, Sedro-Woolley 10.

Semi final preview:

Lynden at Archbishop Murphy

All eyes have been on Archbishop Murphy this year, with 5 teams forfeiting in regular season. In the remaining 4 regular season games that were played, they allowed no points. Allowing no more than 10 points so far in post season, expect the Wildcats to be aggressive on defense. They had 2 interceptions in last weeks game, courtesy of Kyler Gordon and Collin Montez, returning them for 41 and 97 yards respectively.

Lynden is coming into the semi final as the #4 ranked team, and the state playoffs are familiar territory for them. This is the fourth time that Lynden and Archbishop have played in the state playoffs, and so far they are a perfect 3-0. Expect senior quarterback Jacob Hommes to set the tone for the Lions offense, coming of a quarterfinal win where he threw for 2 touchdowns and rushed for 3 more.

Lynden and Archbishop Murphy will play at Everett Memorial Stadium on Saturday Nov 26th, 1:00 p.m.

Liberty at Ellensburg

Liberty enters the semi final matchup undefeated, and with a dangerous arsenal on both offense and defense. This season, the Patriots have scored 40+ points in 6 games, and have outscored opponents 419-122. Competition has gotten tougher in post season and the score gaps may have gotten smaller, but Liberty has continued to come out on top.

Ellensburg beat Sedro Woolley 21-10 last week, and just like their opponent Liberty, they are consistently a high scoring team. Winning 7 of their games by over 40 and shutting out 5 opponents completely, the Bulldogs have all the tools on both offense and defense. Expect a great matchup between the Bulldogs and Patriots, it could be anyone’s game down to the final minutes.

Liberty and Ellensburg will play at Zaepfel Stadium on Saturday Nov 26th, 1:00 p.m.

Quarter finals results:

Connell 56, Meridian 21.

Mount Baker 13, La Center 25.

La Salle 12, Royal 42.

Zillah 6, Deer Park 24.

Semi final preview:

Connell at La Center

Connell is coming off of a big win over Cinderella story Meridian in the quarterfinals. Ranked third in the state, the Eagles defense forced 4 turnovers in the game, including 3 on their 10 yard line, final score 56-21. Quarterback Brian Hawkins will continue to be a strong leader for the Eagles offense, versatile in both the pass and run game.

La Center comes into the semifinal riding the momentum of a huge win against Mount Baker. The Wildcats had previously faced Mount Baker in the quarterfinals twice — they lost both times, in 2012 and 2013. This year, they held the strong offense of Mount Baker to only 167 yards, and won 25-13. Clint Smith leads the Wildcat defense, ending last weeks game with six tackles, a sack and a forced fumble.

Connell at La Center will play at McKenzie Stadium (Vancouver) on Saturday Nov 26th, 4:00 p.m.

Royal at Deer Park

The Royal Knights enter the semi finals a perfect 11-0, making a strong run in the post season. Scoring 69 points in the first two rounds of post season has brought their season total to 474, compared to their opponents’ 104. Coming in as the reigning 1A state champs, their eyes are set on earning the title for a second year in a row.

Deer Park’s only loss came in the second week of regular season, and their post season presence has been felt. Allowing only 6 points in the first two rounds of post season and scoring 45, expect a strong effort from the defense as they take on the Knights this Saturday.

Royal and Deer Park will play at Gonzaga Prep (Spokane) on Saturday Nov 26th, 1:00 p.m.
