Ferndale knocked off Bethel 42-14 in the first round of state playoffs at Civic Stadium in Bellingham.

The Golden Eagles will face O'Dea, who defeated Mercer Island on Friday, in the Class 3A state quarterfinals.

Ferndale (10-0) under head coach Jamie Plenkovich runs the wing-T offense, which helped the Golden Eagles pick up 464 rushing yards and seven touchdowns last week in a 70-7 win over Ballard. The Golden Eagles have an explosive offense that averages over 45 points per game.

This is the first time in seven years that the Bethel Braves (9-2) have been in the state football playoffs. Last week Bethel knocked off Yelm 32-22 to advance to the state playoffs. Bethel's only regular season loss was to Lincoln 29-44.
