A recent report, released by the Community Center for Education, surveyed black youth in south King County. The report didn’t review test scores and graduation rates but looked at systemic issues that profoundly affect black students. They asked black students what they needed to succeed.

In summary, the report highlighted four themes black students highlighted. Student expressed a need to have teachers they could identify with, an environment that values autonomy and emphasizes learning, an environment that prepares them for life beyond high school and culturally relevant lesson, including lessons on pan African history.
