A string of "suspicious" wildfires spread across Mason County is now under investigation by a multi-agency task force.

As many as 15 wildfires started in recent days could have been set intentionally, said Chief Ryan Spurling with the Mason County Sheriff's Office. Firefighters responded to four new fires Monday night.

The newly formed task force is comprised of the investigators from the Department of Natural Resources, Mason County Sheriff's Office and fire districts throughout the county.

It's not yet clear the exact number of fires that are suspicious. Spurling said Tuesday that there are too many fires spread across countless districts that make it difficult to track.

"The number of fires in the same area is unusual and concerning," Hilary Franz, the Commissioner of Public Lands, tweeted Tuesday.

Franz said DNR firefighters responded to eight fires "in and around" Mason County in the last 36 hours. In total, the fires burned more than 75 acres.

The Kings Landing Fire is one of the largest burning in Mason County. By Tuesday afternoon, firefighters contained 30 percent of the fire.

Spurling asks that anyone with information about Mason County fires call 911 or Crime Stoppers immediately.

DNR temporarily suspended Air Water Operations Monday due to drone activity close to the fire.
