Shoreline animal shelter Whisker City that nearly closed due to financial troubles is back helping cats that nobody wants.

On Saturday, they posted on their Facebook page they are back in the black after donations from supporters.

"It is with great joy and gratitude that I share with you this good news. We received enough donations to pay off the money our many volunteers loaned WC to pay the enormous emergency vet bills," they posted on their Facebook page.

Whisker City had to turn people away after they stopped taking in cats for nine days. They were able to contact people they had to turn away.

"Every cat we couldn't take in got to come to Whisker City and yesterday 3 of those cats were adopted," they said.

They also shared an update on Chance, the amputee kitten.

Chance was found by a Good Samaritan on the side of the freeway. Based on her injuries, medics believe she was probably thrown from a vehicle. Her back right leg was amputated and her pelvis was shattered and hips fractured.

"Chance - the amputee kitty is getting a special apparatus to help her learn to walk and she is progressing beautifully. Chance is alive because of our supporters. This is a cat who will bless many lives - I just know it," one of their organizers, April, posted on Facebook.

The five-month-old kitten is learning to walk again, and vets think she's going to be okay. Still, it cost Whisker City more than $7,000 to keep help her, and they've got close to 40 other cats they're caring fore.
