King County Health Department officials are investigating a possible outbreak of the norovirus gastroenteritis at Mama Stortini's Restaurant & Bar in Seattle.

Public Health officials learned of 15 people who became ill after eating food from the restaurant on December 5 or 6.

Investigators visited and closed the restaurant on December 12. During their inspection, they identified 14 employees who experienced nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, symptoms associated with norovirus.

King County Health Department officials said that no laboratory confirmation has been made, but symptoms suggest norovirus.

Officials said they have not determined the cause of the illness.

Health experts say the best way to prevent contracting norovirus is to wash your hands thoroughly. Wait at least 48 hours after the last episode of vomiting and/or diarrhea before preparing any food for others.
