Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan and Democratic congressional candidate Kim Schrier are among 50 women on the cover of Time magazine's latest issue.

Titled "The Avengers," the magazine's Jan. 29 edition focuses on women who have run for public office or are in the middle of campaigns, as part of a larger movement to rebuke President Donald Trump and push for the rights of women.

“Call it payback, call it a revolution, call it the Pink Wave, inspired by marchers in their magenta hats, and the activism that followed,” says a Time story about the cover, referencing last year's women's marches.

Schrier is a pediatrician, wife, and mother. She says she never considered running for office until after President Trump was elected.

“When I got into this race in August I just knew that I wanted to do something and I had no idea that I would be part of a wave that so many women felt like I did. Just felt betrayed and worried about the direction of the country and decided no more waiting around, it’s time for us to step up and do it,” Schrier said. “I think we’re all worried about the way this country is headed, not for purely political or anti-trump kind of reasons, just that we look at the big picture. A lot of us have kids, we think about what it means to take backwards step with regard to protecting our environment, with regard to the public education, with regard to health care and we all feel like we need to step up and do something about it.”

“I never thought I would do this, but right now I think we need all hands on deck, and that includes my own. I think that having a woman doctor, not to mention a pediatrician, it’s just a missing voice in Congress right now and I think I can bring a lot to the table in particular regarding health care and children’s health and women’s health and I am really excited to do something to serve my country,” Schrier said.

Durkan said it’s an honor to be on the cover of TIME.

“It was a real surprise and obviously it was a great honor, but the thing I think I loved about it most is it showed it’s a collective effort. It’s a number of people from throughout the country in different walks and stages of life and it shows really that the way we move forward is when we move forward together,” Durkan said.
