A Pierce County sheriff’s deputy fatally shot a man outside of a Fife motel Tuesday.
According to police, two deputies confronted the 36-year-old suspect, who they describe as a wanted burglar, in the parking lot of the Motel 6 on the 5200 block of 20th Street East.
After the deputies approached the man, he backed his car into a department vehicle. Police knocked out windows of the suspect’s car and pepper sprayed him before he allegedly hit an on-foot deputy with the vehicle.
The deputy was knocked between two cars, and the other deputy and a detective fired shots at the suspect.
The suspect, who police said was a transient from Tacoma, was proclaimed dead at the scene.
The suspect has been arrested 31 times and has eight felony convictions.
It is unknown if the deputy was injured.
Deputies also took the suspect's companion, a 39-year-old woman, into custody. She had an outstanding warrant for unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
