Seattle Humane taking in pets stranded by Hawaii flooding

Kauai is going through devastating flooding and needs help getting homeless pets off the island. That's when Seattle Humane and generous pet-lovers from Washington stepped up to help.
Dozens of homeless pets are bound for Washington state after devastating flooding in Kauai.

Flooding has devastated the Hawaiian island of Kauai, forcing residents and tourists to evacuate. The Kauai Humane Society is in the process of getting adoptable pets off the island, while helping care for stranded pets of locals.

Now dozens of homeless Hawaiian pets are bound for Washington state, thanks to Seattle Humane and generous donors.

Up to 25 animals are due to arrive at Sea-Tac Airport on Thursday evening. Seattle Humane's Life Saver Rescue Team will transport the cats and dogs to a shelter in Bellevue. The pets will be ready for adoption after a medical exam.

The goal is to rescue 100 animals from flooded Kauai. Right now, the community has raised enough for two more flights out of Kauai, bringing the number up to 75.

To help reach the goal, visit www.seattlehumane.org/donate and select Life Saver Rescue Program from the drop-down menu. For every $1,500 donated, Seattle Humane can fill another plane with homeless pets.
