OLYMPIA, Wash. – Thurston County’s sheriff wants to take citizens on a ride along without them having to leave their homes.
A sergeant will be live streaming video on Facebook of a deputy in training on patrol Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The department will post pictures on Instagram from the shift along with Twitter updates throughout the morning.
It’s the first time Thurston County Sheriff’s Office has done a virtual ride-along.
Sheriff John Snaza said he hopes it will show the public what it’s really like in the field. He said it could help the office’s recruiting efforts and might end up making the community safer.
“Citizen involvement is the biggest part of how we solve crimes, is by people getting involved in their community and not wanting bad things to happen,” said Snaza.
