A 47-year-old Bremerton woman was arrested Tuesday for second-degree murder in the death of a 9-year-old boy in Seabeck.
Deputy Scott Wilson said emergency dispatchers received a call from the boy's father at 6:58 a.m. in the 11400 block of Symes Road. The caller said the boy was not breathing and there were bumps on his face.
CPR was being performed on the boy when deputies arrived.
The mother told deputies that she and the boy had arrived at the boy's father's house the night before. When the boy's father woke up in the morning, he told detectives he found the boy cold and unresponsive in his bedroom.
When questioned, the mother admitted to detectives she had killed her son and "needed to save her son from people that were after us, needed to protect him," according to probable cause documents.
The mother told detectives she had "said a prayer 'for my baby'" the night before.
The boy attended Green Mountain Elementary School, and school counselors were on hand Wednesday to support students and staff.
An autopsy of the child was planned for Wednesday.
Bail was set at $1,000,000.
