A memorial service honoring Pierce County Sheriff's Deputy Daniel McCartney is planned for Wednesday, January 17.

The service will be held at Pacific Lutheran University's Olson Auditorium on 10th Avenue and 124th Street South in Tacoma at 1 p.m.

The service is open to the public. Parking will be available at the Church of All Nations on 112th Street E in Parkland. Shuttles will begin transporting people to PLU at 11:15 a.m.

Seating in the auditorium is limited. The sheriff's office tweeted on Monday, "Overflow will be redirected to other buildings on campus where the service will be live streamed."

The memorial procession begins at 11 a.m., departing Joint Base Lewis-McChord and winding through town to PLU.

McCartney was shot responding to a robbery call late Sunday night near Spanaway. A procession honored him Tuesday afternoon. Honor guard members transported McCartney from the Pierce County Medical Examiner's Office in Tacoma to Mountain View Funeral Home in Lakewood.
