Detectives are investigating after a 31-year-old man was shot and killed at a Seattle homeless encampment.

Police say they received calls of shots fired just before 5 a.m. Tuesday at the encampment at First Avenue South and South Spokane Street. They found the victim shot in the chest. Medics rushed him to Harborview Medical Center, where he died.

The city of Seattle said Tuesday it will begin targeted outreach efforts to the Spokane Street homeless encampment on August 28. The "need specific" outreach will include substance abuse and mental health treatment, relocation to alternative living arrangements, and reconnection to support systems, according to the city's Homelessness Response blog.

SPD says detectives are working to develop a possible suspect description. Anyone with information is asked to call 206-233-5000.
