A new study out by WalletHub.com says Seattle is 'culturally diverse,' but not nearly as much as you might think.
Out of 500 U.S. cities in the study, Seattle finished 135th. The top finisher in Washington is Kent at #10, followed by Renton (#21) and Federal Way (#27).
The reason for the surprising results: WalletHub, a personal-finance website, used a different set of criteria - not just race. The metrics included ethnoracial diversity, linguistic diversity and birthplace diversity.
By the way, WalletHub declared Kent the second fastest growing midsize city in the country just last November.

If you limit the study to large cities, the top 60 by population, Seattle still ranks in the bottom half at #35.
The most diverse city in the country is Jersey City, NJ followed by three Maryland cities - Gaithersburg, Germantown and Silver Spring. All three are suburbs of Washinton, D.C.
