Sleepless in Seattle is gearing up for its third Big Give, where volunteers hand out winter care packages to the homeless.

The nonprofit is fundraising $60,000 to hand out sleeping bags, mats, warm socks, food, and water to the over 4,000 homeless individuals in King County.

After two previous Big Gives, it’s Sleepless in Seattle’s biggest effort yet. There are 4,505 people sleeping outside on any given night in King County, a 19 percent increase over 2015, according to the Seattle-King County Coalition on Homelessness.

Sleepless in Seattle is also increasing volunteer teams to encourage volunteers to connect with the people they encounter, and maybe even share a meal with them.

"Our hope is that this year's Big Give can play a small part in helping the community come together as one in a shared sense of generosity and unity," said founder Eddie Wang.

People can donate to the campaign online or volunteer to hand out care packages on Saturday, November 19, 2-8 p.m. The organization will support the homeless in four neighborhoods in Seattle, South King County, and the Eastside.
