Mary's Place campaign against child homelessness raises $2.1 million

Mary's Place campaign raises more than $2.1 million to help end child homelessness.

The Mary's Place "No Child Sleeps Outside" campaign raised more than $2.1 million in just 45 days, exceeding the original goal of $1.5 million.

Mary's Place is a privately run emergency shelter for homeless families. The funds will be used to bring 800 unsheltered family members to emergency shelters and move more than 300 families into permanent housing.

The $2.1 million came from donations by thousands of individuals and more than 50 businesses and local organizations, including Starbucks and the Schultz Family Foundation.

"While there are many priorities to be addressed in Seattle and King County, none are as urgent as the desperate needs of the hundreds of families with small children who don't have a safe place to spend the night," said Starbucks President and CEO Kevin Johnson in a statement.
