SEATTLE – A 6-year-old boy found dead near the Big Four Ice Caves in Snohomish County likely drowned, the sheriff’s office said Monday.

The boy’s body was recovered from the South Fork of the Stillaguamish River about a mile downstream from the trail’s footbridge which crosses the river.

The sheriff’s office helicopter SnoHAWK 10 spotted the body.

The boy’s family said they were in that area before he disappeared Sunday.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
