AUBURN, Wash. - More than a dozen homes were evacuated early Friday morning after methane gas was discovered along a street in Auburn.
Puget Sound Energy entered the neighborhood Thursday evening around 8 p.m. for a regular gas check. During testing they found evidence of natural occurring methane gas in the ground.
As the investigation continued, crews found gas spread throughout the neighborhood above and below ground.
16 homes were evacuated as a safety precaution.
Around 6 a.m. crews determined gas levels were extremely low and safe enough for residents to return to their homes.
Hazmat crews will remain in the area until they learn where the gas originated from.
