5 easy Korean fusion recipes

If you're a fan of Korean food, you've definitely heard of bulgogi. Here are five fusion recipes using Korean BBQ beef as a base.

Korean fusion is in the spotlight once again thanks to the Winter Olympics. We wanted to share 5 recipes you can build on with Korean beef bulgogi, thanks to Suji Park of Suji's Korean Cuisine.

Savory Beef Bulgogi (via Maangchi.com) (Your base for every recipe below!)

1 pound of beef tenderloin, sliced thinly into pieces ½ inch x 2 inches and ⅛ inch thick

Marinade (for 1 pound of beef):

½ cup of crushed pear

¼ cup onion purée

4 cloves of minced garlic

1 teaspoon minced ginger

1 chopped green onion

2 tbs soy sauce

2 tbs brown sugar (or 1 tbs of brown sugar and 1½ tbs rice syrup)

a pinch of ground black pepper

1 tbs toasted sesame oil

several thin slices of carrot

Instructions:

Mix marinade ingredients in bowl

Toss in meat

Marinate for at least 30 mins

Sautee until beef is cooked to your liking

Now that you have your base, here are 5 easy fusion recipes to make at home:

Beef Bulgogi Bibimbap:

Ingredients: white rice, brown rice, or quinoa as a base and then you can add beef bulgogi and vegetables of your choice. For the traditional Korean vegetables, you will want to quick sautee and then toss them in a mix of salt, sesame oil, and garlic.

Beef Bulgogi Ssam:

Ingredients: lettuce, white rice, brown rice, or quinoa as a base and then you can add beef bulgogi and your vegetables of your choice. We have mushrooms, spinach, bell peppers, scallion, kimchi and radish in ours.

Korean Bulgogi Pizza:

A shortcut is to start with your favorite take and bake cheese pizza, then layer it with fresh vegetables, beef bulgogi, cheese, and kimchi. Bake according to the pizza instructions and garnish with scallions

Korean Bulgogi tostada:

Toast corn tortillas in a pan. Layer tortillas with white rice, brown rice, or quinoa. Then top with beef bulgogi, kimchi, scallions, and cilantro. Squeeze lime to finish.

Korean Bulgogi sliders:

Toast slider buns. Top with beef bulgogi, slaw mix (cabbage, onions, or bell peppers), and a mix of sriracha and mayo for a kick of spice.
