3 Snohomish deputies involved in shooting near US 2

A Snohomish deputy was involved in a shooting Sunday night.

Three Snohomish County Sheriff’s deputies were involved in a deadly shooting Sunday night.

The incident occurred just before 9 p.m. in a parking lot near 51st Ave SE and 20th St SE.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, it started with a call around 8 p.m. from a Lake Stevens woman who said her husband was going bird hunting but wanted to hurt himself.

Deputies found the 35-year-old man’s vehicle in the parking lot on Ebey Island and attempted to talk to him, giving instructions to come out from behind his vehicle.

The Sheriff’s Department said deputies opened fired when the man was not compliant and came out from behind the vehicle holding what appeared to be a weapon. The man died at the scene.

A firearm was recovered at the scene, and no deputies were hurt.

The deputies involved in the shooting, a Sergeant with 10 years of experience, a deputy with 12 years of experience, and a deputy with two years of experience, were placed on administrative leave pending further investigation.

The investigation is being conducted by the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team (SMART).
