Moscow police investigating white Hyundai Elantra found in Oregon

The Eugene Police Department said it does not have any information to suggest the vehicle is related to the Moscow homicide investigation.

EUGENE, Ore. — The Moscow Police Department (MPD) released new information on the ongoing investigation into the murders of four University of Idaho students.

In their latest update, MPD said they are aware of a white Hyundai Elantra that was found in Eugene, Ore. on Dec. 17. This comes weeks after police said they are interested in speaking with the occupant(s) of a white 2011-2013 Hyundai Elantra with an unknown license plate.

However, police said Tuesday that car is not related to the ongoing murder investigation.

The Eugene Police Department (EPD) told KREM 2's Portland affiliate that a person was reported sleeping inside a Hyundai Elantra on the morning of Dec. 17. Police responded and found the car at West 7th Place and Seneca Road in Eugene.

Aaron Snell with Idaho State Police (ISP) said investigators have spoken with the owner of the white Hyundai. The car is registered to a female owner out of Colorado who is not believed "to have any relation to any property in Moscow, Idaho or the ongoing murder investigations."

Police said they have identified and are speaking with a man who two of the victims referenced by name in a surveillance video hours before they were murdered. Investigators said this person is cooperating with police.

It is not clear what the two girls' possible connection to this individual is or who the girls were talking about at the time.

Detectives are looking for additional context to the events and people involved in these murders. To assist with the investigation, information can be submitted through the following tip lines:

Police said they will continue to release information that does not hinder the ongoing investigation into the murders. At this time, there is still no suspect.
