Suspect fired at officer during chase near Algona, police say

Police say an Algona officer was in pursuit of a stolen vehicle when the suspect started driving down a closed road off West Valley Highway, according to police.

ALGONA, Wash. -- An early-morning chase that resulted in the suspect allegedly shooting at police in the Algona-Pacific area Wednesday ended with one man in police custody.

Police say an Algona officer was in pursuit of a stolen vehicle when the suspect started driving down a closed road off West Valley Highway, according to police.

Police say the suspect fired at the pursuing officer, initiating the standoff. Police worked to negotiate with the man, who made an attempt to escape from the area around 5 a.m. The suspect fired more rounds as he tried to escape, according to police.

A police dog was able to pin the suspect to the ground, allowing officers to make the arrest.

No injuries were reported.
