A man suspected of shooting and killing his cousin in Pierce County Sunday night allegedly believed his cousin was the devil.

The shooting happened at a home behind the South Hill Fred Meyer. The Pierce County Sheriff's Department says deputies responded to a call from the suspected shooter.

Sam Boren, 24, was found dead in the home from a gunshot wound. The suspect, Robert M. Reynolds, 27, was was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder.

The sheriff's department said detectives learned the two cousins and a friend had been home smoking marijuana. Reynolds allegedly told detectives he thought his cousin was the devil. He showed a handgun and ordered Boren to get on the floor. The sheriff's department says the two wrestled throughout the house. At some point, Reynolds allegedly fired multiple shots, hitting Boren.

The sheriff's department said Reynolds then started "freaking out" and gave orders to the friend, who complied for fear of also being shot. After a couple of hours, Reynolds unloaded the gun, gave it to the friend, and called a family member who convinced him to call 911. He was booked into the Pierce County Jail.
