Starbucks shareholders will gather Wednesday in Seattle for the coffee giant’s annual shareholders meeting at McCaw Hall.

Starbucks says COO Kevin Johnson, COO Rosalind Brewer, and Starbucks China CEO Belinda Wong will be on hand to lay out their plans for moving forward globally, while sharing news about social impact programs.

Much of the conversation this year will be about the company’s efforts to go green. Starbucks is investing $10 million with a group that is trying to find a global solution to recyclable and compostable cups. Starbucks will also speak of the launch of an internal trial focused on creating a greener cup.

All of that comes as protestors announced plans to deliver 884,000 signatures from a petition calling on the coffee giant to get away from contributing to “plastic pollution,” urging them to create a 100 percent recyclable cup.

It's been a year of change and ups and downs for the company.

Johnson took over for Howard Schultz last April and their stock hasn't moved much since. Johnson said earlier this year that their holiday offerings fell short, but they have many stores, especially in China, with big success.

Doors will open at 8 a.m. for the shareholders meeting, and it will get underway at 10 a.m. Starbucks says it should wrap up about 1 p.m.
