The best spring hikes in the Pacific Northwest

Yitka Winn shares the best trails to experience this spring.

As the weather warms, take advantage of the abundant Pacific Northwest wilderness and head to the top hiking destinations in the area.

Yitka Winn, seasoned outdoors writer, shares her favorite spring hikes in the Pacific Northwest.

Yitka's top spring hikes to check out:

  1. Kamikaze Falls, North Bend (5.3 miles roundtrip, 1,600 feet gain)
  2. Duckabush River Trail to Little Hump or Big Hump, Olympic Peninsula (short and fairly flat hike to Little Hump, longer and steeper hike to Big Hump)
  3. Margaret's Way, Squak Mountain, Issaquah (6.6 miles, 1,600 feet gain)
  4. Umtanum Creek Canyon or Umtanum Ridge Crest, Yakima (6 miles, relatively flat in the canyon or steep up to the ridge)
  5. Miller Peak, Teanaway between Cle Elum and Leavenworth (8.8 miles; 3,200 feet gain; often doable by April)
  6. Discovery Park, Seattle (Hikes vary, lots of loops possible; my favorite trails are the Hidden Valley and North Beach trails)
