Macklemore's violinist showcases his own unique musical style

Violinist and composer Andrew Joslyn performed a song from his debut album and chatted about his diverse musical career.

Andrew Joslyn is a classically-trained musician from Bainbridge Island, who was thrust into the spotlight when he joined hip-hop artist Macklemore. Since 2008, Andrew has recorded and toured with Macklemore. He's also composed the scores for several movies, including American Violence (starring Bruce Dern and Denise Richards) and Hickok (starring Luke Hemsworth, Kris Kristofferson, and country music star Trace Atkins).

Andrew released his debut album, Awake at the Bottom of the Ocean, over the summer. The album features collaborations with a number of noted musicians, including Shelby Earl and former Screaming Trees frontman, Mark Lanegan.

He performed the song Icarus from the album, with a string quartet and singer Whitney Lyman, then chatted with Margaret about his diverse musical career and how his brother, comedian and Saturday Night Live alum Chris Kattan, helped expand his musical knowledge.

Andrew and The Passenger Ensemble Friday, February 16, 2018, at Kirkland Performance Center.
