The art-deco Pacific Tower is home to Seattle's newest eatery.
And when you grab lunch at FareStart Cafe, you're helping kids like Brian Forza help themselves.
"You know, before I was in this program, I never went to school,” he said.
Since he started at FareStart's Youth Culinary Program, he's only missed one day of school in this kitchen.
"You know my grades are up, I just got all my credits up. It's just a very fantastic place, it helps me out a lot.” Said Forza.
FareStart has been transforming lives and feeding people since 1987 by training homeless adults culinary skills.
JoAnn Bowditch, FareStart’s Director of Training, elaborated: "So FareStart is a job training program that supports people who are trying to make a difference in their life."
They recently added a program that does the same for kids who need an alternative to traditional public schools.
"It is awesome. The kids are having an amazing time, learning a lot of great skills,” Bowditch said.
Boeing Employees contributed five hundred thousand dollars to the new program, which gives kids school credit, a 20 dollar a day stipend, and training from pros like Chef Naomi Salinas-Burton.
"They're making food for production for real life customers, and they do really good work,” said Salinas-Burton.
Each class gives themselves a name: The Flaming Minions, Fly Chefs, and Awesome Sauces are among the teams that have graduated. Prepping lunch today? The Royal Chefs.
"I just love the atmosphere, the people, the warmth. it's like being in a big family,” said Nate Patterson, another FaresStart student who’s slicing peppers for pickling.
FareStart's newest kitchen is abuzz with ambition.
And by eating here you might help launch the Northwest's next celebrity chef.
"I would like to open my own restaurant in Pike Place Market,” smiled Patterson.
