Live music in Seattle, week of 1/9 - KEXP's Music That Matters

Catch local talent from many genres this weekend including, Spoon and Wolf Parade, who are both playing at The Showbox.

Each week, The Morning Show's DJ John Richards from KEXP 90.3 FM makes recommendations to help us sort through the many incredible options for live music in Seattle's music scene.

This is KEXP's list of the Music that Matters for the week of 1/9.

LIVE MUSIC

  • THURS 1/11 & FRI 1/12 Spoon - The Showbox - Spoon is an American rock band formed in Austin, Texas. Britt Daniel is great live, and their 2017 album Hot Thoughts is a lot of fun. These Spoon shows may be sold out, so if you want tickets you'll have to turn to the secondary market.
  • FRI 1/12 Silver Torches - The Tractor - This Seattle band is the project of singer-songwriter Erik Walters, a member of the touring band for Perfume Genius and David Bazan. He released his second LP called Let It Be A Dream last fall.
  • SAT 1/13 Wolf Parade - The Showbox - This British Columbia band re-formed in 2016 and released their new album Cry Cry Cry last year on Sub Pop records.
  • SAT 1/13 Industrial Revelation - Nectar Lounge - Seattle's great jazz quartet, Industrial Revelation, recently put on a full show of Bjork covers, so maybe they'll throw one of those tunes into their set at Nectar as well. Seattle duo SISTERS opens the show.
  • MON 1/15 - tUnE-yArDs - KEXP - Merrill Garbus, aka Tune Yards plays The Showbox on February 26th, but she's stopping by KEXP early to play some tunes off her new album I Can Feel You Creep Into My Private Life.
