Starting tomorrow, November 2, and running all week long, KEXP's Kevin Cole and Cheryl Waters will be broadcasting live from Reykjavik at the Iceland Airwaves Festival. They'll have an amazing variety of bands from around the world, including KEXP favorite Samaris, who helped us open our new home this spring.
The Airwaves sessions will be broadcast live from Iceland on 90.3 FM, starting on the morning show and running through the midday show.
Catch Samaris live on-air Thursday, November 3, at 6 a.m. You can also check out kexp.org for live video of these awesome shows.
Some groups with local connections will be playing live on KEXP from Reykjavik as well, including The Sonics and hip hop heroes Digable Planets. Catch them live on KEXP Friday, November 4, at 8:30 a.m.
Digable Planets' Butterfly, aka Ishmael Butler, is also the genius behind Seattle's Shabazz Palaces. Seriously, tune in to KEXP all week for these amazing Iceland Airwaves sessions.
OK, back to shows happening here in Seattle. On Thursday, November 3, catch Peter Hook & The Light at The Showbox, playing music of Joy Division and New Order. Peter Hook was the bass player and co-founding member of Joy Division and New Order, and he's been touring that material with his new band The Light for the past few years.
And finally, hometown heroes The Head & The Heart return to Seattle for a 3 night stand at The Paramount, this Saturday, November 5, Sunday, November 6, and Monday, November 7. The Head & The Heart got their start at open mics in Ballard in 2009, and KEXP was an early supporter. They've come a long way since then, and recently released their third album Signs of Light.
It's so cool to see a local band go from small stages to touring the world and gaining millions of fans. And those guys deserve it. Yet another group you heard first, right here on KEXP.
