Last year, the Holiday Pet Food Drive raised more than 16 tons of food.

The Humane Society says thanks to the generosity of donors, more than 1,220 pets receive food every month.

"The Holiday Pet Food Drive is the way we help low income seniors keep their pets," states Brenda Barnette, chief executive officer of the Seattle Humane Society. "Right now, our shelves are almost bare.  We need help from our caring community to continue this program that enables so many community members to not have to choose between self care and pet care."

Last year, the Holiday Pet Food Drive raised more than 16 tons of food, giving families across King County the ability to feed their pet through a difficult time.

The Humane Society says the greatest need is for dry food, but all kinds and types of pet food are appreciated.  Look for drop-off barrels at your local Safeway, or stop by the Seattle Humane Society at 13212 SE Eastgate Way in Bellevue.

The Holiday Pet Food Drive will run through Dec. 30.
