WINSTON, Ore. -- Oregon's best-known doe has a new home.

Snowball, the pet deer.

Known as "Snowball," the doe was rescued from the roadside six years ago by a Molalla family.

But the state seized Snowball and her offspring, Bucky, in September 2007 because Oregon law prohibits holding wild animals in captivity without a permit.

Now, Snowball has been transferred to Wildlife Safari in Winston, south of Roseburg. The doe will be placed in the children's petting zoo and can be seen starting Thursday at 11 a.m.

She suffers from congenital and degenerative conditions, making her permanently disabled.

Meanwhile, the family that adopted Snowball has filed a lawsuit against the state.
