SEATTLE - The Seattle City Council voted 8-0 on Monday to rename a park after Donnie Chin.

The small park, near 7th and Lane, will be renamed the Donnie Chin International Children's Park, in honor of the community activist.

Chin, known by many in the Chinatown-International District as an activist and safety monitor, was killed by gunfire last July. His killers have not been apprehended.

He was instrumental, as well, in the creation of the park back in 1981.

Council member Tim Burgess said prior to the vote, "Mr. Chin was an unbelievably passionate, committed leader in the Chinatown-International District, essentially gave his life serving the people of the neighborhood."  Burgess added, "That park represents that neighborhood, those children and the future of that neighborhood and that makes it worthwhile."
